Creepy Crawly Love: Geckos

You all know I love cats and dogs, but to be honest, I love all animals. A lot of kids (and adults too!) tend to be scared of snakes, lizards and bugs, but I’ve done my best to teach my girls to appreciate even the creepiest of creepy crawlies. They’re really not half bad once you get to know them! So let’s get to know geckos….

Geckos are reptiles and are found on all the continents except Antarctica. Believe it or not, geckos make chirping or barking sounds in addition to others so they can blend in with their surroundings.

A cool thing to know about their tails is that they serve different purposes including balancing their weight as they climb branches, storing fat and camouflage.

What’s kind of freaky is that geckos have no eyelids!

If you’re ever searching for them, keep in mind that most geckos are nocturnal, which means they are active at night.

And here’s a picture of a gecko my daughter caught while we were on vacation last year. We let him go of course.

Pretty cute, aren’t they?

I have thousands of them here (Lizards) Yellow and Blue belly's When I was 6 my dad would take me to work with him because I would be home alone. He was a general contractor. He would say Take all the lizards from this side of the house and put them on that side so the lumber truck doesn't run them over. That would keep me busy for a long time. Guess he wasn't thinking about the lumber truck running me over!

Any creature that can cling to glass like a limpet deserves recognition. Super article Denise....says they've managed to develop some kind of velcro material derived from the setae on their feet. Anyway i know you're missing your girls back home and can't wait to see them at the weekend....saying respect!! or kudos!! or whatever sounds a bit hollow, but just know that what you do and promote is very influential....you're so much more than a Tiny Star.

I've heard that in many parts of the world people welcome them into their houses to kill the bugs at night while they are sleeping. Nature's exterminator.
