THE JOURNEY: Embracing the Organized Chaos

One of the reasons I’m most excited about my new site is because it gives me the opportunity to have an ongoing dialogue with all of you. Writing “The Real Girl Next Door” was a wonderful experience, but I didn’t want to stop there. That’s where THE JOURNEY section comes in. Whether you’re a single working parent like me or going through other challenges of your own, it helps to have a community—online or otherwise—to support you through the ups and downs. Even though I’ve learned to embrace what I call the “organized chaos,” the journey is a never-ending one and I’m still just taking things one step at a time and try to be present in the moment. Most importantly though, I can’t wait to share in our successes, celebrate the simple pleasures in life and support one another through our challenges. After all, what better strength is there than resiliency?

Let me know how you’ve gotten past the challenges life’s thrown at you. I might just feature your inspirational story in my next JOURNEY post.

XO, Denise

You might find it hard to believe, but I've drawn a lot of personal strength from watching the grace you've displayed in your own circumstances. I'm going through a divorce now and have one little boy, age 8. Knowing how you've survived tough stuff has given me the oomph I've needed on some bad days. You go, girl.

Just read this for the first time! I love your philosophy. I've always considered "tough times" to be a test...and I feel honored to have been chosen to be tested, as it were. All in all, I feel so fortunate, despite the minor pitfalls, to be alive here and now...and I consider myself (and every living person) to be among the luckiest humans to have lived during the past 4 million years, or so. As Madonna sang: "I get up again, over and over..."

Thanks for sharing you life experiences with me (I say me because you really make it feel like your talking to me not to the "Audience "). Thanks for the inspiration, and the website. Most of all thanks for being you. Talented, beautiful, ambious, funny and just a bit ballzy. GOD BLESS

I just discovered your site and wanted to say I'm really enjoying it so far. When I started watching your reality show, I had to laugh at how similar our lives seemed to be. I too have a bunch of animals, a dad who is a big part of my life (he lives next door to me and he is eerily like your dad in personality-at least in what he displayed on your show) and I am a single parent, who came out of an emotionally abusive relationship.

The juggling act is never easy, I work a 40 hour a week day job as an editor, 2-3 nights a week overseeing the dining room of a fine dining restaurant, and run my own somewhat-successful freelance writing business. Amidst all that, I try to fit in writing for "fun" (screenplays and two published books), spending time with my two children, staying fit and maintaining a relationship with my wonderful boyfriend.

Exhausting but all worth it! I read your book and found it very down-to-earth, touching and inspirational. You should be very proud of all your accomplishments and your three wonderful girls.

My Journey would actually turn into a book! I raised two children with no child support and my oldest son is now an Journeyman Electrician with 2 children (yes, I'm a grandma...but they call me Nana) and my daughter is gonna graduate next year as a Registered Nurse! I've come full circle and I've learned alot about strength and believing in myself...those are the traits I show my children and have instilled in them to achieve their dreams and never let anyone or anything stop you from what you want!
