Workout 101: Treadmill vs. Track

Running is a great way to stay in shape. It helps to clear your mind and keep your heart healthy. One question I’ve always had about running though is which is better, running outdoors or on the treadmill? If you’ve had that same question, hopefully this will answer it:

Treadmill

Pros:

•    If you don’t have any hills around, the treadmill can supply them for you.
•    You won’t let nightfall or bad weather stop you from working out.
•    It’s easy to customize your workout.

Cons:

•    It gets tedious. And we all know a boring workout routine can easily stop you from exercising.
•    Treadmills (or even gym memberships) can be expensive. Running outdoors burns calories and nothing else.

Track

Pros:

•    Being outdoors is great exercise motivation.
•    It’s the green way to run.
•    It’s free!

Cons:

•    Bad weather or nightfall might prevent you from running outdoors.
•    It also gets tedious.

My solution: Switch it up! Don’t do just one or the other; keep it exciting by mixing up your routine.

What do you like better, running outdoors or on the treadmill? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

XO, Denise

I also like to switch it up between the treadmill and the track to keep from getting bored with the workout.

I use to do alot of running, until my accident. Now I built myself up swimming at the YMCA, and I walk. I'm building my speed up walking. That's been my goal, I won't be able to run again, but I give my everything to walking fast. It's took me alot to get to where I'm at now, and I'm proud of myself. I know it doesn't sound like much. But when my mom died, I was in a wheelchair with my spine and a broke leg. Now I'm swimming walking fast, well fast enough for now. But you have to stay busy . I have a dad who's faster than me , he's 90. He told me ,You gotta stay on the move.

true, also swimming, I go to spas south of the city, amid the jungle where springboard and platform pools with a depth of six meters ... but now I'm with a new training plan for running speed tracks, although these have been here in mexico privatized public money and now it is impossible to train on the tartan of the old stadium, but the clay courts are excellent, are soft, they avoid injury, train later when not busy so I train in the solitude of the evening and that in itself it is a privilege, besides having praticado tennis and soccer, I work out at a gym outdoors ... in mexico no competition schedule on track open, so it'll have to go to Europe to compete, probably Spain and Italy, england and france ...

BOTH! Outdoors And inside on treadmill. The key is to not get bored. Rainy days...if hot outside..I LOVE running outside, but when cold...inside.
